The art of being heard

T-Mobile G1 Wallpapers

without comments

I’m a phone geek. I love my phone until a new one comes out then I hate it. Right now I have the G1 from T-Mobile, and as far as I’m concerned its the best phone on the market for me. That will change in a few months when the new Motorola Cliq phone is available but till then I will stick to my G1. since I use my phone alot I find I change the background alot, in the spirit of openness

so I thought I would start to share them here and on flickr.

To ad or not to ad?

without comments

Over the years I have been asked more then once whether or not to place ad’s on a site. Most times my response has been a resounding ‘NO!’. So less than 15 minutes after I placed adsense on my new blog I was sent a very sharp email pointing out that I have adsense on my blog. In response I figured I would explain the thought here in public.

it’s not a monologue it’s a dialogue

If you’re in the SEO/SEM world I can make two assumptions

  1. You have told someone their company should be on social networks
  2. You have received a blank stare and a dull sounding “why?” in return for that advice

I am a big fan of social media, for myself. I am a big fan of social media for business where their ready. Not all business owners or corporate structures are ready for sites like twitter or facebook. This doesn’t mean they won’t gain benefit from such sites, it’s just that in most cases when a company isn’t ready for social media it would be a better use of your time to slowly get them ready before dropping them in the deep end of the social media pool. Once the company is more ready for what social media has to offer then you can more easily move them into it, which will in the long run help with better internal adoption. First post on new blog setup

without comments

The Commercial Noise blog has been live for months but has had nothing meaningful posted on it. this will change now, I have deleted the old blog and started over. this is going to be a place where I can talk and display things that are of interest to me. I will post everything from SEO content to articles about my new hobby with toy cameras.

This is also a place to experiment with Wordpress as a blog platform, i want to try and recreate pieces of wordpress in ruby on rails.

i can be found online with very little effort, @tinywook on twitter, tinywookie on flickr, commercialnoise on gtalk, photoworking on aim, or just search for “Jon Stephenson” on google and im all over that page.

My interests are very eclectic for the most part, im like art, photography, graphics and design, reading, marketing, media, anything online, cheese, and lots of other stuff but i don’t think i want to list.

i will post more later. working on a post for SEO talking about paid links.
