Prepping images for a blog post in lightroom 2
Step 1
Open lightroom
| Step 2
|
once in lightroom make sure you have “library” chosen on the menu in the upper right.
Step 3
Pick the image you want to export.
|
Step 4 |
in the top left of the screen click on “file”, then click on “Export”
Step 5
an option box will popup. if it doesn’t already say “Files on disk” in the main box click on it and chose that option from the list.
step 6
The first box below “Files on disk” will be “Export Location” use this to decide where you are going to save your images. click on “choose” in the lower right.
Step 7
pick the main folder you want to use for your images
step 8
check the option for “Put in SubFolder”
step 9
Put a name related to the Blog post you are working on in the box. you can name it anything you want but i find it easier to use a folder name related to the post im working on. this also helps when you are looking for an image you used in the past.
step 10
The next piece is to scroll down until you come to the section labeled “Image Sizing”. check the box for “Resize to Fit”
step 11
make sure “Width & Height” is selected. with this set Lightroom will automatically resize the image so that neither width or height are above the size you set. this is great for when you have images that are not square it will resize height or width to make the image the correct size, also retaining the aspect ratio.
step 12
the “Don’t Enlarge” option keeps Lightroom from scaling up images that are already smaller then the selected size.
step 13
Set the “Resolution” to 72. This will make the file size of the images smaller as well as make them not print “Photo Quality”, This is a good option if you dont want people to reprint your work from your site.
step 14
set your image size, both (W)idth and (H)eight. I personally choose between 200 and 500 depending on the size you want to show on your blog.
step 15
Click on “Export” and your images are saved.
Next post will cover adding images to a post using “Window Live Writer”
T-Mobile G1 Wallpapers
I’m a phone geek. I love my phone until a new one comes out then I hate it. Right now I have the G1 from T-Mobile, and as far as I’m concerned its the best phone on the market for me. That will change in a few months when the new Motorola Cliq phone is available but till then I will stick to my G1. since I use my phone alot I find I change the background alot, in the spirit of openness
so I thought I would start to share them here and on flickr.
These are the first 4 I have added so far, I will post more as I make them

To ad or not to ad?
Over the years I have been asked more then once whether or not to place ad’s on a site. Most times my response has been a resounding ‘NO!’. So less than 15 minutes after I placed adsense on my new blog I was sent a very sharp email pointing out that I have adsense on my blog. In response I figured I would explain the thought here in public.
Test blog post using tr.im url’s
im working with the twitter plugin and getting it to use tr.im for urls.
it’s not a monologue it’s a dialogue
If you’re in the SEO/SEM world I can make two assumptions
- You have told someone their company should be on social networks
- You have received a blank stare and a dull sounding “why?” in return for that advice
I am a big fan of social media, for myself. I am a big fan of social media for business where their ready. Not all business owners or corporate structures are ready for sites like twitter or facebook. This doesn’t mean they won’t gain benefit from such sites, it’s just that in most cases when a company isn’t ready for social media it would be a better use of your time to slowly get them ready before dropping them in the deep end of the social media pool. Once the company is more ready for what social media has to offer then you can more easily move them into it, which will in the long run help with better internal adoption. New look / same layout

First post on new blog setup
The Commercial Noise blog has been live for months but has had nothing meaningful posted on it. this will change now, I have deleted the old blog and started over. this is going to be a place where I can talk and display things that are of interest to me. I will post everything from SEO content to articles about my new hobby with toy cameras.
This is also a place to experiment with Wordpress as a blog platform, i want to try and recreate pieces of wordpress in ruby on rails.
i can be found online with very little effort, @tinywook on twitter, tinywookie on flickr, commercialnoise on gtalk, photoworking on aim, or just search for “Jon Stephenson” on google and im all over that page.
My interests are very eclectic for the most part, im like art, photography, graphics and design, reading, marketing, media, anything online, cheese, and lots of other stuff but i don’t think i want to list.
i will post more later. working on a post for SEO talking about paid links.
