Working on clients projects is how we keep the servers and lights working. Working on our own offerings is how we get clients. So the question is which is the more important?
www.commercialnoise.com has sat unfinished for close to 18 months now. In that time it has had more then a few half baked designs tossed up and never fleshed out. The problem is a simple matter of time. Right now there are 9 clients in verious stages of completion, which is great. They all need our full dedication and effort to be completed on time and on budget, but then what? After those are gone we will have more, I am meeting with two potential clients this week in fact, but at some point we will need to be able to hand a potential client a card with our web address on it and say “this is what we do.” if we were to do that today it could be a disaster.
With this in mind we have moved back every client project for the next 8 days and will focus on getting OUR little corner of the web in shape to show at least a little of what we can do here. Now this move has been planned and timed to not effect any deadlines or on going projects but it is still a strange conversation when you tell a client they wont see anything for 10 to 12 days because we are working on our own stuff for the next 8 days.
As with any small business its always a balance between working on your own stuff VS working on clients work. Gooing forward here at commercial noise we are going to try many different ways of doing this I am sure. The current model we had been using for the last year and a half hasn’t worked so its time to try something different. Today we got our 10 currently active client, the client is “commercial noise” its a small internet marketing company. They will get placed in timeliness along all our other active clients and get resources allocated just like everyone else. The hope would be that doing it this way our brand will continue to grow and flourish and not end up looking tired and forgotten.
To our current clients, sorry to put you on hold for these 8 days but we promise it wont effect deadlines AT ALL. To any potential clients, internet marketing is what we do and we want to do it well. Perception is reality and we want our reality to look as good as it should.
